The Downers Grove Park District is committed to fostering, cultivating and preserving a culture of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion across all public spaces, places, facilities and programs that the department manages.

Through the use of education, communication and empathy, we seek to create a Park District that welcomes and values our differences to consistently strive for a better organization and community.

Inclusion Services

Downers Grove Park District is a member of the South East Association for Special Parks And Recreation (SEASPAR), a special recreation association that enriches lives through recreation. Inclusion provides a choice for individuals of varying abilities to experience recreation programming within their community. SEASPAR and the member entity staff work closely with the participant and family to provide enriching recreational experiences in the least restrictive environment while maintaining safety and confidentiality. Financial Assistance Program

In an effort to provide recreation, health and wellness opportunities to all residents, including those who are experiencing financial hardships, the Downers Grove Park District has established a Financial Assistance Program (FAP).

DEI Accomplishments

Downers Grove Park District’s staff have completed the following DEI initiatives among others:

  • DEI-focused training for Summer Camp Counselors
  • Revamp of the Financial Assistance Program; 21 families served in 2023
  • Addition of accessibility widget and Google translate to District’s website
  • Welcome signage and stickers at District facilities
  • Installation of an inclusive playground and StoryWalk at Constitution Park
  • Reduced fitness rates for veterans and civil servants
  • Participation in PrideFest hosted by EQuality Downers Grove
