Discover Lyman Woods with a TIMBER Pack
Explore the woods with the help of TIMBER packs! TIMBER packs include everything you need for your self-guided journey of Lyman Woods. Each pack has a different theme (trees, insects, mammals, birds, and early residents) and contains tools for your adventure, including identification books, magnifiers, and biofacts. Use the included activities to challenge your group to use your senses, identify plants, find animal tracks, listen for bird songs, and explore geological history. TIMBER packs are perfect for families, youth groups, and school classes visiting Lyman Woods. Check out a different pack each time you visit!
Trees
Check out the tops of the trees with binoculars, and use identification books and seed, twig, and leaf samples to discover the many different kinds of trees in Lyman Woods!
Insects
Get up close and personal with our 6-legged friends with magnifiers, bug boxes, and identification guides!
Mammals
Discover a real fur and skull, and become a wildlife detective as you search for mammal tracks and signs through Lyman Woods!
Birds
Search the woods for birds using binoculars, identification guides, and bird calls. Examine feathers up close and check out a real owl pellet!
Early Residents
Discover Lyman Woods through the eyes of an early resident with the help of stories and artifacts. Learn all about the unique geological history of Lyman Woods as you climb a kame!
A valid driver's license is all that is required to check out backpacks. There is no charge to borrow backpacks but they must be returned before you leave Lyman Woods. Backpacks are available at the Interpretive Center, 901 31st St., on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 4 pm At least one adult must accompany each group.
