In 2015, October was officially recognized as OAKtober Oak Awareness Month in Illinois, as a dedicated time to honor the strength and significance of oak trees. The white oak, our state tree, is vital to our environment, cleaning our air and water, cooling our communities, and saving energy. But with over one-third of oak species threatened worldwide, these trees need our help!
Join the Downers Grove Park District on October 2 at Belmont Golf Club to celebrate OAKtober from 4-6 PM. We’ll be giving away FREE 1-gallon oak trees for you to plant in your yard (while supplies last). Oak varieties include White Oak, Shingle Oak, Bur Oak, Chinquapin Oak, Red Oak, and Hills Oak—subject to availability. Visitors who take a tree will also receive a coupon for a free food item inside the clubhouse.
Date: Wednesday, October 2
